we're keeping quite busy with school and work and school work and cheerleading and brownies and birthday parties and just plain old having a good time. tonight is the last flag cheer game and there will be a pizza party before it. but if it doesn't stop raining then i guess it will just be pizza!
today school was cancelled at 11 and tomorrow is completely cancelled due to a toxic situation in the cafeteria ceiling. the 7th graders i had today were pretty excited this morning. i'm bummed. i was going to be a science teacher tomorrow!
super daughter came home today with The Principal's Star Student Award given to any child who: turns in all assignments, is not absent, and is “caught being responsible” at least once in the month. it's a new award this year and the students with the most certificates in each grade get to attend a party with the Principal at the end of the year. she might have some pretty stiff competition, though, as 10 out of 22 students in her class got the award for september…the most of any class!
after papa's (very successful) golfing this morning and a delightful lunch we all headed out on our bikes. sophie is really quite skilled at the two-wheel mode of transportation and today took her new bear along in a backpack. we took surface streets to a field that we dragged our bikes across to reach the bike path. from there along to another small field in order to get to the gas station where we had some delicious frozen treats. next time we will take the tennis raquets along and make quite a day of it!
today papa went to the driving range in preparation for tomorrow's golfing (first sunday morning golf session for him! woohoo!) and sophie and i went along to do some miniature golfing. after an exhilirating round of 18 very short par 2's we played some stomp swamp for prize tickets and then watched papa hit the ball really far. because the weather was only getting better, after a quick mexican food lunch we headed to one of the many metroparks for a hike. while turning the car around in a church parking lot sophie asks, “are we goin' to church?” to which i reply, “no.” she then says, “good! i've had enough praisin' in my life!” in a perfect atlanta, georgia accent. brains, timing and good delivery. she'll either be a chemical engineer or a stand-up comedian.
weekend activities:
FRIDAY
the high school cheer leaders held their annual cheer clinic this week which culminated in 160 K-6 grade girls cheering and dancing brefly before the home football game. the coolest part was the game ball being delivered by helicopter from a local tv station while the girls were all lined up along the sidelines!
SATURDAY
i don't believe we've updated the blog to reflect sophie's newest skill: riding a two-wheeler. she practically taught herself in a matter of three days (determination is a gift and a curse) and saturday we took our first family bike ride. ok. so it wasn't very long or very far but it's a start!
SUNDAY
sophie's birthday! we watched “Pete's Dragon” in the morning in order to keep our minds off the upcoming party and then sophie opened her presents from us. papa was busy playing with the dry ice he bought to keep the quadruple chocolate ice cream cake from melting during the party. sophie's party was held at a local bowling alley and it was really fun to watch all the girls in action. some of them could easily go on to be professional bowlers!
sophie has the standy-uppity-est hair on her cheer squad!
